A Study On New City Form Of Urbanization Of China

With China’s rapid economic growth in the last thirty years, the process ofurbanization has got into a fast and stable development stage, which brought abouthundreds of construction all over Chinese cities and changed their appearances totally.In the general sense, urbanization means the process of changing a village into a city,which also means the disappear of the village and the expand of the city. Under theparticular situation of China, the urbanization has made a great achievement andproduced, simultaneously, many serious prolems involved the form of the village, cityand even culture, ideology, which are getting worse and worse.Space and structure-physical part of the city, and social relation-abstract part of thecity, constitute the city. Both of them have been explored in theory and tested inpractice for hundreds of years from east to west. However, concerning about the cityform, most of the studies pay more attention to the space and structure, with little tothe social relations. Actually, social relation is as important as space and structure,which has been demonstrated by most theories and practices. So, we redefine “NewCity Form” which contains the space, structure and social relation, equal parts of thecity.Nowadays, the incomplete mode system of New City Form is the key, leading to thedeterioration of urban problems. In the thesis, we explain and analyze the cases inorder to demonstrate the rationality of New City Form, find out the reason, processand result of the incomplete mode system and give suggestions to improve thesituation. Since the western has accumulated rich experiences and theories about theurbanization, which are precious for our construction, we chose some cases,demonstrating the rationality of New City Form as well as drawing on theirexperiences. After that, we make a design of the Juyuan New City, basing on theresearch. We hope the design could play an active role on state’s urbanization.
