Promoting Macao’s appropriate economic diversification is the inevitable choice for Macao’slong-term and stable development, and also the policy strategy of the special zone governmentand the things which the central government pays close attention to. As a micro–economywhich includes just29square kilometers in the area but more than500thousand people, bases onthe Commercial Gaming, and orients external demand, Macao has few resources, and its landcarrying capacity is surcharged, which cause that there would be little space for Macao’sappropriate economic diversification. So Measuring Macao’s land potential for growth and findthe available space are the starting point of Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.Besides, Macao’s industrial structure is single, the mainstay industry of it which wasCommercial Gaming has short industrial chain, little industry embeddedness and relevance, serious negative effect on the society, economy and people’s livelihood, and squeezes otherindustries’ developing space, all of which lead to vulnerable industrial structure. So finding theappropriate scale boundary of Macao’s Commercial Gaming is the base of Macao’s appropriateeconomic diversification. The results of this thesis’ research show that Macao’s land has little potential for growth, andland carrying capacity is surcharged; the development of Macao’s Commercial Gaming isalready to the appropriate scale boundary. Based on adjusting and controlling the CommercialGaming and making the whole city plan, Macao needs to find appropriate economy route, expand the area of investment and take the initiative to select a new leading industry.
