The land use change is the most direct performance of interaction betweenhuman and Earth. To understand the land use situation in this area, this article hasmade comprehensive, systematic study and exploration of the changes in land useof Jing Yang based on the remote sensing and the geographic information systemtechnology and obtained three period land use classification maps. It doesn’t onlyprovide support for the further study about the land use change, but also offer thepowerful reference for leading people to exploit natural resource properly andprotect ecological environment and realizing to make sustainable use of the landand promote the sustainable development of social economy. This passage’s object of study is in Jing Yang. The research data is composedof2000,2006,2010,three phases Landsat5TM images, and the second land surveydatabase results of2009.We make the analysis of changes of the study area byusing ENVI4.5and ARCGIS Desktop9.3.Through a series works such asestablishing interpretation signs, establishing the classification templates, performing supervised classification, evaluating the classification results, wefinally obtained the land use classification map. Finally, we conducted aqualitative and quantitative analysis on the land use change of Jing Yang from thechange overall characteristic, the land use type dynamic change tendency, the landuse degree change, the land use transfer matrix four aspects and made clear aboutthe situation of each kind of land use types changes during11years in Jing Yang,as well as explained the driving forces of the land use change in Jing Yang fromfour aspects concerning about natural factor, population factor, economic factorand policy factor.By comparing the data of2000,2006,2010, we can see that the farmland areais reduced, the forest area is sharply increased, construction area increased slightly, grassland area is significantly reduced, the waters first increase and thendecrease, unused land is reduced.
