Since the reform and opening up, the economy has been growingrapidly in china. According to the data of the national bureau of statisticsin China from1978to2010,the average GDP growth is10.0%,suchgrowth rate is unprecedented in the world. Since its accession to the WTO,China has maintained the trade surplus and its market has been occupied apivotal position in the world. With the high economic investment, highconsumption and high pollution, environmental quality is graduallydeteriorated. At present, environmental problems have restricted thedevelopment of China’s economy, affected people’s life and health. How todeal with the relationship of environment and economy has become animportant research topic. In this paper,I used the sulfur dioxide emissionsas environment pollution degree index. First, according to the panel dataof30provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China since2003to2009,I implemented stationarity test, cointegration test, errorcorrection and Granger causality test to measure sulfur dioxide emissionsand GDP With the method of econometrics, and obtained the results thatthe sulfur dioxide emissions caused economic growth. Then, In theanalyse of the variety track of the environmental quality and economicgrowth with the environmental kuznets curve hypothesis in China, I got the relation of inverted U type between them, acquired there are onecritical point of them, a critical value surmounted will change the relationbetween them. This shows China’s environmental pollution is not onlyaffected by economic growth factors, but also by the factors of energyconsumption, industrial structure and policy implementation. Through thisresearch I found the relationship between China’s economic growth andsulfur dioxide emissions, made the practical significance of the theoreticalbasis for the harmonious development of China’s economic growth andenvironmental quality.
