A Research Of International Competitiveness Of China’s High-technology Industry

High-technology industry has got a more and more obvious leading role as a new growth point of the field of economic development from the21st century. It also has a function of leading other industry’s development. Therefore countries around the world have given a high light to the development of high-technology industry. High-technology industry in China has a slow start and is weak now. So it has been in urgent need to develop fast and improve international competitiveness. This paper uses China’s high-tech industry data from all indicators in1995-2010to analyze the development of China’s high-tech industry. It also compares China’s high-tech industry development to some developed countries and summarizes some problems. And then the paper builds an index system which has14specific indicators that affect the international competitiveness of China’s high-tech industry to use factor analysis method on the international competitiveness of China’s high-tech industry in the past16years. The paper calculates all the scores of international competitiveness and analyzes the main factors. Finally main conclusions and appropriate policy recommendations have been proposed.The main conclusion of this paper is that China’s high-tech industry has a rapid development and its international competitiveness has increased significantly, but there are still many problems. The problems are as follows. The development of the industry and is uneven, so as the regional distribution. Domestic, especially state-owned enterprises are weak in strength. Research funding is inadequate and technology transfer capacity is weak. Industrial policy can’t keep up the pace of the development of high-tech industry. Compared with developed countries, China’s high-tech industry has a larger scale, but the investment in R&D is not enough. And the backwardness of the industrial policy leads to the backwardness of the competitive potential and competitive environment. It has a negative impact for high-tech industry international competitiveness. Factor analysis show that the international competitiveness of high-tech industry in China in the past16years has been on the rise, but the three main factors perform differently. The industrial scale factor has the greatest impact, and the impact of the latter two is fluctuant violently. It is worth noting that the strength of technology introduction score plays an inverse role in promoting the international competitiveness of high-tech industry.Based on the above conclusions, the government should adjust the structure of high-tech industry and increase the investment in science and technology. Also it is essential that relevant laws and regulations should be established to form a good environment for high-tech industry in order to improve our high-tech industry international competitiveness effectively.
