Since supply chain management was set up, supply chain performance evaluationhas been one of the focuses in logistics development. It leads to change enterprise’sconceptions, reduce total society cost and improvement itself. Bionics has particularlyattracted the attention of the academic and been widely used, especially bionicsalgorithm and new bionics theory. With the rapid development of bionics and science,research on artificial neural networks has become an important trend and branches inthe study. However, nowadays there is few perfect supply chain performancemeasurement systems based on the bionics principle and information processing.Therefore, how to deal with supply chain performance with bionics theory plays avery impotent role in building and developing supply chain.The current situation of domestic and overseas studies on bionics and supply chainperformance evaluation is firstly elaborated in the paper. Supply chain performancesystem is described, including Return on Investment, Supply Chain of ReferenceModel, Key Performance Indicators, Benchmarking and so on.5D BSC which ismade up by supply provider excepted four angles of balance scorecard is proposedand used for supply chain performance evaluation.Based on bionics situation, the frame of bionics is proposed and a review ofartificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and other bionics theory is alsodescribed in detail for the application in supply chain performance evaluation.Although the research of bionics is just at its starting point, but the theory, relatedsoftware and applications on ANN and GA is developed very well. The application ofneural networks on supply chain performance evaluation is to establish the system andmodel of supply chain performance evaluation according to historical data. BP neuralnetwork is most popular and studied in these theories.Based on the application of bionics on supply chain performance evaluation, basiccontent of BP network is elaborated in this thesis. An empirical study on BP networkmodule is discussed through MATLAB software. MATLAB software can be used for control, design and Modeling. Empirical study results show that bionics theory cansolve problems of supply chain performance evaluation and it is a wide applicationfield and good prospect.
