Urbanization is an inevitable trend of a country or region’s modernization andurbanization, especially of the developing countries or regions. The spatial extensionof the town is the primary manifestation of the development of urbanization, nearlyhalf of the century, with the continuous of the economic and the accelerationdevelopment of urbanization, the expansion of land space of urban construction hasbecome the most significant characteristics of LUCC’s process. China is one thelargest developing country, which owning the world’s most population and lacking ofrelative scarcity of cultivated land resources, urban land expansion which will led tothe loss of cultivated land will further exacerbate the already conflict between thesupply and demand of cultivated land. Farmland protection has become a mostimportant factor to affect China’s socio-economic sustainable development.Mang town is located in the middle-low mountain basin Valley of westernYunnan Provence. The total area of the dam accounted for9.27%of the total landarea of the city, it also the concentrated distribution area of the city’s quality ofcultivated land, and also the main distribution area of the city’s construction land(especially in urban construction land). The contradiction between people and land isespecially exceptional. In recent years, Yunnan provincial government put Mangtown into the project of province’s develop plans, which contains47county economypilot counties,30provincial key industrial parks,40provincial key industrial countyand25in the Frontier County, the process of urbanization will be further acceleratedhow to protect the cultivated land resources is an urgent problem. This Paper using the econometric methods based on correlation analysis andlinear regression analysis, and the coordination model, combining with spatialanalysis of GIS to study the spatial and temporal relationships between the process ofurbanization and cultivated land resources in Mang town of Yunnan Province. First ofall, on the basis of measure the level of urbanization in Mang town, with the help of SPSS software, using the Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression methodto analyze the relationship between Mang town’s1996-2009Urbanization andcultivated land resources change; and use coordination degree model to analyze thedegree of coupling between the change of Mang’s cultivated land resources andurbanization, to investigate the regularity characteristics’ changing of cultivated landresources in the process of Mang’s urbanization in recent15years. Secondly, on theArcGIS9.3platform, use the two land use map of Mang’s of2000and2009tooverlay analysis, obtain Mang’s center of the non-construction land in the city inrecent10a, particularly, the spatial distribution of cultivated land resources intoconstruction land resources and land use transition matrix. Then obtain the followingconclusions:(1)Urbanization’s level rise have a significant effect on reducing Mang’scultivated land resources’ area in recent years, also have a significant negativecorrelation between the decreasing of expansion of cultivated land area;(2)Mans center edge of the city are "spread" type of development, suchdevelopment often leads to loose use of urban land, will occupy a large number ofprecious land. In10years, Mang’s central urban area of cultivated land resources’changing for urban construction land resources’ area is655.88hm~2,accounting for77.62%of the reduction of cultivated land area, the paddy fields changing area is495.50hm~2, accounting for84.59percent of the reduced paddy fields;the area ofirrigated land is71.45hm~2, accounting for water poured reduced area’s123.68%;the dry land is88.93hm~2, accounting for44.14%of the dry land area reduction.Visible, Mang’s now development urban form is very unreasonable.(3)explore the scientific way to promote urbanization, and the protectioncountermeasures of the dam area of high quality cultivated land resources, andadvocate urban construction land uphill, improve the land for construction ofeconomical and intensive use levels to alleviate the increasingly severe Mang’s “eatand construction”conflicts.Combinate with theoretical analysis and empirical research, not only sort out the time and space impact of urbanization on the changes of cultivated land resources, enrich the study of urbanization and cultivated land resources protection system, butalso provide strategy of the development of rational urban development and protectcultivated land of Mang town, at the same time, provide a realistic basis urgencypolicy actual case for implementation of Yunnan Province that “the town builttowards the hillside, the Leung left for descendants farming”.
