Hairy crab industry is a very important aquaculture industry in China. It developed well which has a vast number of competitive brands. Meanwhile, the industry structure transformed from wild fishing to farming aquaculture, the cultured crab developed from extensive to ecological, healthy and standardization. Jiangsu Province got a number of valuable experiences through this rapid development course which is abundance with technology-effectiveness, brand-effectiveness and economic-effectiveness. Enter the new century, the structure of crab industry faces new changes, it has new opportunities for development, and the implementation of ecological farming and development of export trade are considered as the future trend by many provinces as to strengthen the competitiveness. How the competitiveness of the crab industry in Jiangsu Province and which is the key impact factor are the focus of this paper.Based on the predecessors studies, first of all this study describes the whole culture of crab food and China’s crab industrial development features, then focuses on the development situation of Jiangsu province’s crab industry, including the production, quality brand, circulation and export trade; then use indexes to measure the competitiveness which is divided into two parts including out-of-province competition and in-province alternative competition, then combined with the diamond model and Cobb-Douglas production model to analyze the impact factors of crab industrial competitiveness in Jiangsu Province, find out which factor is more competitive.The main conclusions of this study include the followings:1. The competitiveness of crab industry in Jiangsu Province is much more competitive and efficient in both out-of-province and in-province.2. According to Porter’s diamond model of competitive analysis and the production model, the scale and well-bred crab are the positive factor of aquaculture. The key competitiveness factor of Jiangsu crab industry include breeding technology, brand known and industrial policy, while endowments, ecological farming cost are the disadvantage.3. The paper combines the trend of demand and industry development to analyze which is the main problem that prevents the development of Jiangsu crab industry. The paper suggests that Jiangsu should innovate the green technics and strengthen the protection of his brands, then extend the crab processed level as to raise the industry structure to maintain the competitiveness.
