Regional Industry Competitiveness Of The Empirical Analysis

Competitiveness is a long-standing topic. Being attached with greatimportance by states around the world, the research of competitiveness hasexpanded from national level to regional and industrial level and presenteda more rich and specific system. Under a circumstance of acceleratingglobalization trend, China is faced with both unprecedented opportunitiesand challenges. Therefore, how to improve our competitiveness in nationallevel and in various trades is a question that urgently need to be resolved.As a economically powerful province, Jiangsu Province has been among topthree position in terms of economic growth volume in China and maintaineda growth rate exceeding average national level for successive years. Withits strong industry competitiveness, Jiangsu Province, to a certain extent,represents the quality and orientation of the economic development of ourcountry. Nevertheless, Jiangsu Province is also faced with situations ofunbalanced regional development, demanding industrial structure update andindustrial competitiveness in need of improvement. Based on the abovementioned facts, this thesis, adopting shift-share, market share andlocational quotient modes, conducts an empirical study of Jiangsu Provincein terms of representative features, influencing factors, evaluatingindexes, etc.As a economically powerful province, Jiangsu Province has been among topthree position in terms of economic growth volume in China and maintaineda growth rate exceeding average national level for successive years. Based on the abovementioned facts, this thesis, adopting shift-share, market share andlocational quotient modes, conducts an empirical study of Jiangsu Provincein terms of representative features, influencing factors, evaluatingindexes, etc.As content is concerned, the first chapter of this thesis elaborates on theresearch background, purpose and significance, framework, main content andcreative points. The second chapter introduces theory of regionalindustrial competitiveness and evaluating method. The first section ofChapter Two explains the definition of important concepts concerningregional industrial competitiveness and the second section focuses on theintroduction of related theory of regional industrial competitiveness.Chapter Three is an empirical study taking Jiangsu Province as an example.The first section of Chapter Three introduces the industrial structure ofJiangsu province followed by a section analyzing the industrialcompetitiveness of Jiangsu province with the help of shift-share mode. Thethird section of Chapter Three analyzes the segmented industrialcompetitiveness by segmented industry evaluating system which is composedof three factors, namely competitive advantage index in view of market share,locational quotient and output proportion. Chapter Four, based on theanalyses made in the previous chapters, proposes policy recommendations,e.g, updating industrial structure, improving overall industrialcompetitiveness and choosing industries with strong competitiveness. Italso provides an outlook of future development trend and goal.This thesis, combining theory and practice, is a quantitative and qualitative study on the regional industrial competitiveness of JiangsuProvince in multilevel and multiple perspectives and puts forward policyrecommendations to improve industrial competitiveness of Jiangsu Province.The author sincerely hopes, with the completion of this thesis, proposeseffective suggestions for the improvement of overall industrialcompetitiveness of our country and contributes to the healthy and fastdevelopment of our countries’ economy.
