Since finance crisis of2008, the shipping of whole world decreased badly. The prize ofnew shipbuilding dropped to a very low level and no sign for rising. Most of shipyardscouldn’t earnsurplus from the contract prize of new shipbuilding of normal bulk carrier andcontainer vessel. Speeding the building and enhancing the efficiency are the problemsshipyard need to solve in order to decrease the shipbuilding cost.As the projects, heavy pier and2500ton floating crane, got approval from CHINASTATE SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION (CSSC), Shanghai shipyard Co., Ltd.(followingnamed “SHSY”) has had the hardware to apply large-block in shipbuilding. How to utilizethese devicesfully and reasonably earnsurplus under the current stagnantmarket is our urgenttask.As the application research of large-block lifting in shipbuilding, we selected76000DWT Bulk Carrier, being built,as the core research ship type. We only achieved thelarge-block building for engine room block as the limit of dock position and floating cranearm. This document includes the following contents:The first is building feasibility of large-block. It analyzesthe hardware and software oflarge-block being built in SHSY.The second is block integrality. It researches mounting parts during block pre-fitting andhull outfitting.The third is lifting stress analysis. It calculates the stress during lifting by creating model.The forth isblock moving. It researches how to move the block from outfitting fieldtotransportation quayhorizontally.The last is block lifting. It researches the workmanships for transportation fromChongming island to Puxi dock.The above research confirms the feasibilityof carrying out the large-block building inSHSY. The large-block building lightens the workingintensity, improves the workingenvironment, enhances the building speed and efficient, shortens the dock periodsfor theapplying of sectioncomposing, block integrality, block moving, lifting force analyzing, blocklifting and etc.. The dock period has been shortened from two months to about45~50daysbecause of applying the large-block lifting. The dock period still will be shortened ulteriorly if large-block building, even tera-block building can be applied for whole vessel. So, no mattershortening of building period or enlarging of building scale, or even extending to theincreasing of economic benefit, the application of large-block building isconsiderablynecessary.
