Shaanxi Equipment Manufacturing Competitiveness In The Context Of Economic Globalization Studies

Equipment manufacturing industry refers to the industriy appling the equipments to run simple and expanding reproduction. It is one of the most basic and strategic industries because it determines the level of wholy industry and the quality of national economy. Therefore, revitalizing the equipment manufacturing industry has been written into the "11th-Five-Year" plan. The trend of modem economic globalization is increasing. The equipment manufacturing industry of developed country is transfering to developing country. In this context, Shaanxi province should seize the opportunity to undertake international industrial transfer actively, developing the equipment manufacturing industry. As a main base of China's equipment manufacturing, Shaanxi province has made important contribution to economic development of the country. However, it develops slowly since 1978, the ranking falls behind in the whole nation, revitalizing the equipment manufacturing industry becomes an important task of economic construction in Shaanxi. If we want to develop the equipment manufacturing industry of Shannxi vigorously, we must firstly understand the competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry, as well as its superiority and inferiority compared to other provinces, in order that it can provide the basis for developing the Shaanxi equipment manufacturing industry. Thus the research about equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness of Shaanxi province has the important practical implication. Currently, the scholars of the country have some researches about the equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness, most of which aims to the whole nation or eastern region. The researches concerning equipment manufacturing industry in Shaanxi province are rare. Therefore, the theoretical implication of this thesis researching about equipment manufacturing industry in Shaanxi is important.This thesis' work focuses on the "Shaanxi province equipment manufacturing competitiveness study". Firstly, it defines the equipment manufacturing industry; straighten out the theoretical basis and the influential factors of the equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness. Secondly, it describes the present situation of equipment manufacturing industry of Shaanxi province, and analyzes the influential factors which influence equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness in Shaanxi province by "the diamond model". Afterwards the thesis will carries out quantitative analysis about the equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness of 28 provinces and cities (area) in the whole nation including Shaanxi province through establishing a set of index system and the Principal Component Analysis method. The result indicates that the whole competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in Shaanxi province in 2005 is weak, the rank being the 22nd in the nation. Meanwhile, the scale strength, the profit ability and the market development ability of equipment manufacturing industry in Shaanxi are much weaker. In equipment manufacturing industry, the special equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness and the general equipment manufacturing industry competitiveness are in the medium level while that of other industries are even worse, being in the downriver level. Finally, the thesis puts forward some suggestions about enhancing the competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in Shaanxi.
