A large number of facts showed that small and medium enterprises grow faster thanbig enterprises, provide more employment opportunities, and have more innovativecapabilities, so new companies can promote economic development. How to improveentrepreneurial intentions is the subject of many scholars. Social capital is not only thedriving force of entrepreneurs’ competitive advantage, but also the channel for capitalgained and business development. Many previous studies analyzed social capital as awhole, but in the fact not all kinds of social capital can improve entrepreneurial intentions. This paper tried to explore what type of social capital can enhance the entrepreneurialintentions, while what type cannot.Based on the objects of entrepreneurs’ network, we classified social capital into threegroups, that is industry-specific social capital, task-specific social capital and generalsocial capital. This paper tried to make social capital as a starting point to build theassumptions model of the influence of potential entrepreneurs’ social capital on theirentrepreneurial intention.138questionnaires and regression analysis were used to conductthe empirical research. The results showed that when potential entrepreneurs’industry-specific social capital or task-specific social capital is more intense, they havemore intense entrepreneurial intention; potential entrepreneurs’ general social capital hasno relationship with their entrepreneurial intention. Combining with the mobility of thesethree kinds of social capital, we got the result that the higher mobility of nascententrepreneurs’ social capital is, the stronger the entrepreneurial intention is.This paper classified social capital according to the objects of their networks, putforward a new classification method. Besides, this paper brought in the mobility of socialcapital, which could help scholars study social capital from a new perspective. The studyalso found different types of social capital influence entrepreneurial intentions differently,so business policy makers could make better policies to stimulate potential entrepreneurs’entrepreneurial intention.
