We extract the basic framework of CSR practices of pharmaceuticalsupply chain stakeholders. Built on such framework, this paper discussesthe influence of overseas enterprises on the CSR disclosure among Chinesepharmaceutical enterprises under supply chain circumstances. Trade-UpHypothesis in the literature of environmental management is applied andextended to CSR, with which we discuss the Crowding-Out Effect andSpill-Over Effect in the process of International Economic Integration inChinese market. With the Stakeholder Theory and empirical methods, we find thatthough overseas enterprises’ entering Chinese market would inhibittechnology progress and diffusion in the market on some level, there’s stilla strong linkage between business with overseas firms, through supplychain, investment or competition, and CSR disclosure among Chinesepharmaceutical firms. As a matter of fact, according to the deduction of a stakeholder model,we find that CSR disclosure practice itself can also be an effectiveregulation that drives the CSR practices of suppliers. Meanwhile, as thesupplement of supervision, downstream manufacturers can improve theirCSR disclosure through market competition and investor concern, and thenfurther improve their suppliers’ CSR disclosure performance throughsupply chain management. Such practice will effectively improve CSR disclosure performance along the whole supply chain and have a greatchance of controlling accidental risks that harm their long-termdevelopment.Current studies on CSR in Chinese academic field are still insufficient. This paper provides a significant clue on CSR performance for thefollowing researchers. And it sheds light on some helpful basis to solve thedilemma on the choice of profits or CSR in pharmaceutical industry. It alsoreveals some malpractices of CSR conduct, which will further helpimprove CSR atmosphere specifically.
