Logistics industry has been positioned as one of the vital industries of a nation’seconomy which is analogous to the artery to our human body. The level of its development isan implicit indicator of the degree of modernization as well as comprehensive national powerof a nation. Specifically, Harbors have several unique advantages along with the developmentof Logistics industry, playing an important role in the comprehensive logistics service chain.Harbor Logistics involving Distributing transportation, Warehousing&Distribution,Circulation Processing, Harbor customs clearance, Value-added service, etc which mean a lotto the import&export of a nation. Harbor Logistics can be seen as an engine to the harboreconomy, which is also a crucial driver of regional economy or even national economy.Nowadays, many large harbors around the world have been evolving towards the3rd&4thgeneration. To construct the centre for global cargo distribution centre and the basement ofComprehensive logistics service, many developed economies have already treated harbors asthe key point for developing harbor economy. By evolving the harbor Logistics industry, acountry would improve the related processing industries around the harbors as well asboosting the import&export trades, which in turn has a positive impact on the virtuouscirculation of the logistics industry. Consequently, promoting the harbor logistics industries isvery important to a harbor’s development.Under this background, my thesis is concentrating on the current situation as well as thetrends of the development of the harbor logistics industry around the world. Particularly, bytaking Caofeidian harbor as an example, I deeply analyze the economic hinterland, relatedpolicies, competition environment, and internal resources and advantages of Caofeidianharbor. According to the analysis above, I set the title of my thesis as “Research onProgramming of Port of Caofeidian Modern Logistics”.Initially, I introduce some related theories on port logistics industry and discuss theposition and impacts of harbors on modern logistics industry. Moreover, I analyze severalfunctions of harbors as one of the key points of Modern logistics industry: Transportation&Transfer, Loading&moving, Storage, Cargo processing&packaging&sorting, Informationprocessing and bonded property. After that, I interpret the developing trends of modern harbor logistics industry and describe the development history and characteristics of the harboramong the four different generations, pointing out the new developing directions andcharacteristics of the harbor logistics industry. Meanwhile, I summarize advanceddevelopment patterns of modern port logistics industry using the experience from RotterdamHarbor, and then I elaborate the gapes between harbors’ functions and the level ofmanagement within China and some European countries.Furthermore, I introduce the current situation and developing position of CaofeidianHarbor. Based the related experience and theories, I adopt the quantitative&qualitativeanalyzing methods together with Empirical&Normative analyzing methods to illustrate thecontributions of harbors to economic development,thus derive the necessities in developingthe port Logistics Industry of Caofeidian harbor. After applying the throughput data of thepast5years of Caofeidian harbor, I adopt exponential smoothing methods to forecast the levelof throughput in the future, and evaluate the developing scale of Caofeidian harbor. Taking theadvantages of Caofeidian harbor, I analyze the economic environment of the backland, thecurrent situation of several main competing harbors and derive the advantages and challengesof Caofeidian Harbor in developing modern port logistics industry.Finally, As for the low development level of,deficient development approaches, highlyinternal competition and low contribution ratio to hinterland of the logistics industy inCaofeidian Harbor, I propose the strategic position&objectives and the framework ofimplementing specific measures (creating a favorable macro and micro environment,implementing diversified development strategies to strengthen the cooperation betweenharbors, emphasizing on human resources and technology innovation) by analyzing theeconomic situation, industrial bases and the advantages in port logistics industry ofCaofeidian Harbor.
