I company is a global TOP3semiconductor manufacture. In2003, I companyannounced to establish ICD Company at CD City of China. ICD Company isresponsible for the newest microchip assembly and test. So far, ICD Company is one ofthe best semiconductor manufacturers in CD City.In order to sustain its leading position in the semiconductor industry, ICDCompany has been constantly on the production machines upgrade and replacement.With IC technology development, the more devices integrated in the chip requires themore accuracy for production machines. So how to ensure these high-precisionmachines smoothly running for production is a critical challenge for ICD Company.One of the key solutions is to establish a robust calibration management system.Through conducting periodical and effective calibration, machine’s good performancecan be guaranteed. Otherwise, if there is no effective calibration system, the IC chipsproduced by these machines might be defective. If these defective chips were deliveredto customers, it will inevitably cause a huge marketing share lost, as well as a seriousnegative impact for the ICD company brand.In the past eight years, the author was assumed the management role of ICDCompany’s calibration system. For calibration system, quality and time managementare the most2key projects to its success. This paper focuses on quality and timemanagement research and improvement for machine calibration system.As quality management research, firstly we leverage the historical quality auditfinding data over the past3years to conduct the root cause analysis. Then, based onroot cause analysis, we implement the fish bone diagram method to list out all the rootcauses. These root cause are also categorized by people, machine, method and material.After that, we held brain storming analysis to get the final solutions for each root cause.Finally, further actions are listed out to improve the machine calibration system quality.As time management research, firstly the current problems for calibration systemon the productions support were described. After that, several modern technologies oftime management were used, such as WBS, PERT, CPM, and Gantt chart, to research and solve current issues. This section focuses on the optimization of the timemanagement of calibration system. All the solutions are put into the actual operations toimprove calibration system time management at ICD Company. Finally, there is asummary that listed out the benefits for quality improvement and cost reduction whentime management optimized for machine calibration system.
