Research On The Strategies Of The Developement Of Urban Agriculture In Xi’an

As a metropolis in China, Xi’an since2007has set forth the aim of developing the urbanagriculture and rendering a large scale, standardization, industrialization and marketization, inorder to enhance the tourist sightseeing and urban agriculture. For several years, the urbanagriculture has already been a significant mean to improve the efficiency of the agriculturalproduction and to increase the farmers’ income. In the period of development, severalproblems have occurred in the development of urban agriculture in Xi’an, i.e. indeterminacyof aims, backwardness of concepts, less prominence of focus, as a result of all the problemsmentioned above, less evident characteristics of the region, lower economic benefit, and theinadequate development of the city’s advantage, etc. have arisen. The issues mentioned abovewould have serious negative impacts on the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainabledevelopment of the urban agriculture in Xi’an.In this paper the urban agriculture in Xi’an has been considered a whole system whichcan be managed, these contents below will be involved: to set forth the comprehensive,coordinated and sustainable development of urban agriculture as the main line, to aim atimproving the abilities of comprehensive production of urban agriculture, via all kinds ofmeans of graphics analysis, comparative analysis, and summarization, according to therelevant theories in urban agriculture, to do some systematical research on the developmentstrategies of urban agriculture in Xi’an, and finally to put forward the measures andsuggestions which could be a political reference on the development of urban agriculture inXi’an.This paper will involve the main contents below: to overview the concepts, types andrelevant theories, to analyze the development of urban agriculture in Netherlands, Japan,Beijing and Hangzhou, to discuss the pattern, feature, level and problems of urban agriculturein Xi’an based on the analysis above, to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities andthreats of the development of urban agriculture, to clarify the conception, aims, focuses,pattern and distribution, in final, to put forward the relevant measures and suggestions: I. toestablish the diversified investment mechanism with multi-layers and forms throughenhancing the support and protection of the agriculture; II. to render innovation of agriculturalscience and technology and to transform the patterns of agricultural development; III. to optimize the service system of agriculture and to improve the comprehensive abilities ofproduction; IV. to enhance the training of new type farmers and to improve the abilities ofincreasing income; V. to advance the reform in rural area and to enhance the vitality ofagricultural development.
