Land Intensive Use Assessment is an important composition of Land Intensive Use, playing an important and directive significance for the use of urban land. The study on Wenjiang District land intensive use assessment is not only important for the development of Wenjiang, Wenjiang land resources protection, rational land allocation and the optimal mode of economic growth, but also remarkably meaningful for objective understanding on the current status of Wenjiang land intensive use, forecasting the development trends, effective exploit of the potential of land intensive use, and the implementation of sustainable development strategy.Through the methodology of literature study, field survey and comprehensive analysis as well as other various methods, according to the connotation of urban land intensive use and previous study on urban land intensive use assessment index system, this thesis proposed the index system for Wenjiang District Urban Land Intensive Use Assessment. The final study reached the following points:(1) Analysis on Chengdu land utilization situation, findings of the current status of Wenjiang District urban land intensive use and the existing problems:Wenjiang district land use efficiency is low and the method of land use is extensive, which to a some extent affected its economic, social and environmental development. The contradiction between land supply and demand for construction purpose is outstanding, and the urban and rural land use structure is not very reasonable. Cultivated land need be protected in the meantime, the needs of economic construction are also to be satisfied. Residential areas are located sporadic, scattered with less intensive land use. Urban and rural construction internal land use structure is not reasonable. Land resource reserve is meager, and it is difficult to balance the farmland occupancy with replenishment.(2) Analysis on the urban land use trend in Wenjiang District:Land ecological environment seems not positive. Wenjiang District intends to further enhance economic development strength, improve the level of comparatively well-off life, but on the other hand it need undertake the regional comprehensive function to motivate the development of neighbour cities or counties, and accelerate regional industrialization and urbanization process, promote the coordinated development of regional economy. For the land resources utilization, as Wenjiang area is in the accelerated development course of industrialization, urbanization, the construction land demand is more obvious, contradiction between cultivated land and basic farmland protection, ecological environment construction and non-agricultural construction becomes more prominent. (3) Evaluation on the urban land intensive utilization in Wenjiang District:The Evaluation system has been set up on the urban land intensive utilization in Wenjiang District, taking into account the availability of the data and operation of the index system. Many principles are applied in the system. The system must be prospective and directive, comprehensive, general, scientific, systematic, characteristic, level inclusive, local, and qualitative as well as quantitative. The system is set up based on the unique situation of Wenjiang District and the guidelines of urban land intensive use after referring to previous evaluation index system. This evaluation index system consists of three main parts:target, criteria and indicator. In the part of criteria are4factors:land investment intensity, the extent of land use, the output of land use and continuity of land use.(4) Analysis of Evaluation results in land intensive use in Wenjiang District:Based on the current situation of its land use and its development characteristics in various aspects such as economic, social and ecological aspects, a quantitative system has been set up to achieve intensive use of urban land following general guidelines of system setup. Specifically, a formula matrix has been used to compare two components in the same part using the four factors such as land investment intensity, the extent of land use, the output of land use and continuity of land use. The weights of each factor are0.385,0.115,0.308and0.192while the degrees of intensive use are0.176,0.163,0.186and0.21respectively.(5) Constructive measures and suggestions have been put forward to promote intensive land use considering different aspects such as overall strategy and development target of land use, structure of land use and adjustment to its layout, land planning, general land control, township land use planning as well as government function in land management.Due to the limited urban land resources, intensive land use must be applied in the development and construction of land in future. We must develop various ways of intensive land use under relevant policies to make good use of our reserved land. Hence, we will follow the sustainable development strategy to maximize the overall benefit of our urbanization.
