Canyon tourist combines tourism sightseeing, canyon exploration, field preliminary examination, body amusement, leisure vacation and outward bound training together and has a good development prospect, therefore, it is attracted tourism department’s more and more attention. However, our country’s canyon tourist starts relatively late; presently it is weaker about the canyon traveling fundamental research and failure to form its own theory system. This article makes a research on the subject of tourist’s canyon scenic area, takes the Nanjinguan Grand Canyon’s tourist as the study object,, starts with the tourism motivation and makes a futher research on the tourist motives differences in a demographic profile and travel behavior characteristics.Based on the the different community tourists and theoretical results,it classfies the canyon tourist market segmentation and summarize the general behavior characteristics and differential behavior characteristics of tourists,so it has a vital significance to instruct the canyon tourism activity, separate the tourist market,and perfect tourists behavior theory system.Firstly, based on the basic methods of literature query, defining the concepts and analyzing the tourist motives theory and behavior pattern tourist’s theory, all those are the theoretical support of further research, based on this, it puts forward the Canyon Scenic Spot’tourist research model.Secondly, base on the self-administered questionnaire survey, using escriptive statistical analysis method to summary the demographic characteristics and behavior characteristics about the type of canyon scenic spot.Using SPSS15.0software to carry out factors analysis and summary six tourist motives factors:body leisure motivation, learning exploration motivations, social interaction motivations, regression natural motivations, emotional need motivation; using SPSS15.0software to carry out variance analysis and conclude the differences of tourist motives in the different gender, age and the record of formal schooling characteristics.Finally, based on the cluster analysis method, it takes the type of scenic canyon tourist motivations as categorical variables and scientificly classifies the canyon scenic area’s d into three categories:body escaping type, social emotional type, the pursuit of exploration type. What’s more, taking the behavior of the tourists as categorical variables and using cross tab analysis method, the paper studies the behavior characteristic in common and different traits as well as proposes the suggestion that promote the canyon tourism development.
