Transportation is the prerequisite and guarantee for national economic development, which plays an important role in promoting the resource allocation and social division of labor. As the center of nine provinces, Hubei province located in the middle reaches of Yangtze River is an important transportation node for middle regions of China. Advantageous geographical position and growth momentum provide exceptional conditions and stable supply of goods, while the urgent transportation demand requires further improvement of comprehensive freight transportation corridors construction. It is significant to make accurate evaluation for various transportation modes in the freight transportation corridor, which will not only improve the transportation efficiency but also ensure the reasonable transportation network planning.First of all, this paper introduces the connotation and types of comprehensive transportation corridors, and analyzes the disadvantages of current evaluation methods. Secondly, describes infrastructure construction and operational situation of comprehensive freight transport corridors in Yangtze River of Hubei province and point out the drawbacks of the corridor construction. As for establishing the evaluation model, the necessity of freight transport corridor evaluation is explained from three perspectives:the cargo owner, transportation enterprises and government. Through the comparison with other evaluation methods, fuzzy matter-element model with discrete catastrophe theory is put forward. Combined with the features of freight transport corridor in Yangtze River of Hubei province, take railway, highway and waterway three transportation modes as the research object and establish hierarchical evaluation system. The evaluation indexes can be divided into four subsystems including economic, technologic, social and sustainable development four parts, and the performance of qualitative and quantitative indexes can be required from experts’ scoring and formula calculation respectively.Due to the subjectivity of weight calculation and uncertainty of evaluation system establishment, this paper utilizes fuzzy matter-element model to do the data processing for each evaluation index and discrete coefficient method to calculate the weight. Taking account of the importance and the logical relationship among all the indexes in the evaluation system, catastrophe theory is introduced to further improve the objectivity and accuracy. With the optimized data and previous weight calculation results, the approach degree of each transportation mode and can be acquired. According to that, the share rate for each transportation mode in the freight transport corridor can be obtained by the logit model, and the construction strategies for synergetic development can be put forward correspondingly.
