Technical textiles, one of the three main branches of the textile industry, is an emerging industry. As the textile industry is structurally adjusting and being upgraded, technical textiles are the new economical focus point of growth. In China’s "Textile Industry Restructuring and Revitalization plan" technical textiles are considered as the key element in China’s textile industry restructuring and revitalization. In2011China’s technical textile production reached9.1million tons, which represents30%of the world production; while its consumption reached5.25million tons, accounting for20%of the world consumption. When compared with developed countries, we notice that there are quite large disparities, but we need to keep in mind that China’s development is quite recent and therefore still has some catching up to do. China needs to rely on imports for a large share of its technical textiles, especially for the high end products. In2011China’s import of technical textiles totaled$3.649billion, which is three times as much as in1992. China affects the world’s trade development of technical textiles, but because of the rise of the relative prices it faces a loss instead of gaining benefit. Based on the results of our theoretical and practical research I suggest to ensure the security of China’s import of technical textiles and its trade interests by further developing technical textiles.I analyzed the structure of the world’s trade of technical textiles and the status of China as well as its import features. I used the time series model to make an empirical analysis of the factors that influence China’s import and analyzed them from a price angle, which confirmed the influence of the price on trade and more specifically trade profit and losses. Finally, I provide some substantive suggestions for China’s technical textiles import safety and interest; and the development of China’s technical textiles. The results show that between1992and2010, China’s domestic demand growth is the factor with the most influence on the import of China’s technical textiles, while the improvement of national income also plays a role. But on the other hand the domestic production and the import prices don’t cause a decline in China’s import of technical textiles. Applying the trade gravity model on China’s import of technical textiles, the APEC economic system has only a little impact. China has an influence on the world’s trade of technical textiles, but it needs to pay attention to the trade losses in recent years because of the rise in relative prices. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety and interests of the trade import, an importing country should realize the diversity of the structure of foreign trade, while strengthening the price negotiation. The key to success is to accelerate the structural adjustments and to upgrade our country’s technical textiles and improve our comprehensive competitiveness.
