By referring to a great amount of studies on tourism spatial structure, the connotation of tourism spatial structure is re-defined in this paper. In perspective of the newly defined tourism spatial structure, the author takes Hangzhou as an example to studies the evolution and optimization of tourism core-peripheral structure by adapting and learning the theories concerning tourism growing pole, tourism pole-axis spatial system, tourism core-peripheral structure, life circle of destination, evolution mechanisms&models of tourism spatial structure, and etc.Based on tourism core-peripheral structure theory, the author divides Hangzhou into two areas, core tourism area and peripheral tourism area, according to tourism development condition, and studies the tourism core-peripheral structure of Hangzhou in further detail in perspective of tourism resources, tourism transportation and tourism enterprises, illustrating that Hangzhou shares a typical core-peripheral structure in its tourism development. Thereafter, tourism income, tourism receipts and the amount of tourism enterprises are collected and analyzed to indicate the evolution of tourism core-peripheral structure in Hangzhou. It founds that Hangzhou has shared a typical core-peripheral structure with the feature of sole core since the year2000, and now the tourism industry in the core area starts to influence and expand to the peripheral area.In terms of analyzing the current situation as well as the evolution of tourism core-peripheral structure in Hangzhou, the author finally draws an optimizing model for its tourism core-peripheral structure. Moreover, the author does not only demonstrate why this optimizing model is raised, but also gives some suggestions for it implementation and realization.
