Supermarket profit level is closely related to its sales volume which is affected by many factors, such as customer satisfaction. Factor analysis method is used to extract main factors that affect supermarket performance from numerous factors on the basis of collected data. Further investigation is done according to the above main factors. Thus, there comes to a conclusion that improper layout brings about a weak competitive aspect to a supermarket. Reasonable suggestions and corresponding improvement measures are proposed. With more and more consumers choose to go shopping in the supermarket, channel congestion during the peak hours has become a common phenomenon. Channel congestion will cause negative shopping emotions and result in the decrease of sales volume.A study is done from the point of layout rationalization in this paper. Multi-objective genetic algorithm is used to solve the problem of channel congestion in the supermarket. Three targets are set up as objective functions of layout optimization. One is total channel travel time, one is channel pass rate, and another one is sales volume. The better layout is consists of shorter channel travel time, more approachable pass rate and more sales volume. The first objective function of total channel travel time consists of passenger flow volume, road parameters and no barriers time. The second objective function of channel pass rate and the third objective function of sales volume can be got from the data. Computer simulation is used to preview all sorts of layout plan scenarios in different passenger flow volume. Objective functions of different layout plan are compared by genetic algorithm. Putting out Pareto front as optimal solution set. Finally, provide operators with several reasonable supermarket layout plans from the point of free-moving channel. An example of city W supermarket A’s shopping layout is given to verify the practical applicability of supermarket layout optimization model.
