In recent years, logistics industry flourishes in our country with the rapid growth of global economics and advancement of modern science and technology, which makes more and more important contribution to the local economic growth. Therefore, all walks of life begin to focus on the development of logistics distribution center to improve their own competitiveness. The book industry which has been developing for many years has got involved.Although the book industry has dramatically changed in business mode, selling mode, distribution channels, warehouse and distribution, it is high time to pay attention to the layout of book distribution center. Compared with the logistics in other fields, book logistics is characterized by diversity, complexity, seasonality and so on. However, the methods of domestic logistics distribution center on layout haven't formed a unified approach, which require our further research and exploration.Firstly, with considering the function of working area in logistics center and combining the requirements of book logistics center, partition scheme with working the features of book logistics center is provided. At same time, the problem of book distribution center on layout planning is discussed, and then the operating procedure of book distribution center is analyzed. Systematic layout planning (SLP) which is widely used in the overall arrangement of workshop is now applied to layout planning of functional areas. The traditional SLP is improved by combining with genetic algorithm. The logistics relationship used in SLP is turned into logistics cost. Based on minimizing logistics cost, the project of layout planning would have more reality importance.Secondly, after collecting the survey data of book logistics center, the method of how to confirm the book distribution center scale is deeply investigated. Then the scales of book distribution center are proposed based on the equilibrium of the supply and demand. At last, calculate the size of total areas and functional areas according to their respective theories, the equilibrium of the supply and demand and location.Finally, SLP and genetic algorithm are combined after the study of optimizing the devise; Mathematical model is built in the aim of minimizing the moving cost, while restrict conditions are given in the condition of giving the total areas and functional areas; the layout problem is solved by making use of MATLAB.
