With the rapid development of the society, the contradictionbetween the population, resources, environment and development isconstantly increasing, imperiling the development of the future. Theidea of sustainable development is aimed at coordinating therelationship between the economic development and theenvironmental protection, and to coordinate the relationship betweenthe human society and the natural environment. As the security ofgrowing crops, cultivated land resource seems especially importantwith its finiteness and irreplaceability. In order to make the limitedcroplands satisfy the requirements of people, we should use themsustainable. Therefore, it has the important practical significance ofevaluating the sustainable utilization of the cropland use.As the major of national agricultural production base, Henanprovince is shouldering the important responsibility to ensure thesecurity of national food, however, there are some problems of the cultivated land use in Henan province are not ignored. Therefore,evaluating the sustainability of cropland use can provides thedecision basis of cropland protection policy, and also provides themethod of reference to measure the similar regional sustainability.This thesis analyze the sustainability of cropland use about Henanprovince and the cities based on the integration model of emergytheory and ecological footprint during2000to2011, and improve theyield factor in the calculate process, making it more suitable to theactual situation, and forecast the numerical value during2012to2016.The main conclusions are as follows:1) During2000to2011, there exists a major ecological deficit inHenan province. The ecological sustainable index is low, and thecropland use is in medium unsustainable development state,therefore, the cropland has large load.2)The prediction of ecological footprint about cropland use inHenan province during2012to2016showed that the Henan provincewill be in medium unsustainable development state for a long time inthe future, and the per capita ecological footprint and ecologicaldeficit will be higher and higher.3)During2000to2011, all the cities in Henan province haveecological deficit in different degrees, and almost all of the citycropland use are in medium unsustainable development state. The sustainable development degree of Nanyang city is the lowest inHenan province, it is in strong unsustainable development statethroughout the study period. The sustainable development degree ofJiyuan city is the highest in Henan province, it is only part of the yearsin weak unsustainable development state.4)The per capita ecological carrying capacity is generally low inall cities of Henan province, and there exists the big differences in theper capita ecological footprint of the cities. The ecologicalsustainable index is generally low, and the sustainable utilizationdegree of the cropland are expected to be improved in the city.
