Under the economy globalization and regional economy integrationbackground, urban agglomeration plays an increasingly important role inthe distributed systems of international productive force and the areadivision of physical labor. We know from the national economic andsocial development11th five-year plan outline that government shouldtake the urban agglomeration as the main form of pushing urbanization.Development of westward region pointed out that Chengyu should buildurban agglomeration. Studying the formation of Chengyu urbanagglomeration has important theoretical and practical significance topromote regional economic development and social progress in chengyuarea and westward region.Firstly, comprehensive reviews on domestic and foreign standpointsabout the drive mechanism of urban agglomeration formation are made.Then I set forth the theories of drive mechanism of urban agglomerationformation. Secondly, a definition on Chengyu urban agglomerations isprovided. And the status of Chengyu urban agglomerations is presented.Thirdly, pushing force and pulling force and intervening obstacle arepresented. Pushing force includes three sections: development ofagriculture、production factors and policy decision. Pulling force includesthree sections: scales of the second industry and the third industry、 promotion of industrial structure and comparison of benefit in the threeindustries. Intervening obstacle includes three sections: urban-ruraldualistic economic structure、the household registration system and thesimilar industrial structure. Lastly, the countermeasures and suggestionswhich are made to accelerate the development of Chengyu urbanagglomeration.
