The lightly crosslinked homopolymers or copolymers thickeners, which are polymerizedby acrylamide and its derivatives with the inverse emulsion polymerization and exist in theform of inverse emulsion, have a perfect thickening property. In addition to its advantages,such as brief production process, easy to use, low environment pollution, low production costs,and so on, these thickeners have attracted many enterprises’ attention and have been used incosmetics field widely.In this paper, we use ISOPAR M as oil, SPAN-80as water-to-oil emulsifier, TWEEN-80,AEO-9or AEO-7as oil-to-water emulsifiers, ammonium persulfate&sodium metabisulfite asredox initiator, CL as crosslinker, EDTA as functional additives, acrylamide and itshydrophilic derivatives as monomers, abtain inverse emulsion thickeners with a originalviscosity about1500mPa·s through inverse emulsion polymerization. After a series ofexperiments, we conclude that when the mass fraction of monomers, crosslinker,functionaladditives, all emulsifiers, redox initiator is35%,0.5wt%,0.5wt%,28%,0.28%,respectively, and the reaction temperature is45℃, water-to oil phase ratio is0.75, waterphase pH is5.5, we can get a thickener with the most great thickening property, which meanswhen a water solution containing about3wt%inverse emulsion thickener has a viscosity over100000mPa·s.According to the phase reverse test, salt tolerance test, pH tolerance test, and polarsolvents tolerance test to the inverse emulsion thickener, we find the thickener has a fast phasereverse ability. What’s more, the thickener has a stable thickening property in dihydroxyalcohol, trihydroxy alcolhol, and in the water solution with a pH from2.5to13. Therheological behavior test indicates that the thickener has shear-thinning and recovery abilityand show thixotropic properties. All of the characteristics described above make this inverseemulsion thickener have a widely potential application field in cosmetics.
