The Application Research Of Bai Nationality Traditional Furniture Elements Used In The Modern Composite Wooden Board Furniture Design

The Yunnan Bai furniture occupies a very important position in the long history of the development of Chinese minority furniture, whether it is from the furniture style or the skills, showing a perfect example of the combination of culture and technology. Meanwhile, the relationship between the development of Bai furniture and Bai architecture is inseparable, with the improvement of times and the updating of conceptions as well as the development of technology, of which both sides are relatively developing. In the process of historical development, Bai furniture should also be combined with the times, especially in the era of the lack of modern materials. We designers should integrate the new materials and new skills into the modern design of Bai furniture, combining Bai architecture with the characteristic crafts from Bai furniture like woodcarvings, marble carvings and color painting, and make a better inherit and carry forward the splendid culture of the history and inhabitation of Bai ethnic.This thesis includes a research of the existing Bai furniture products and the user group, worked out a set of innovative design scheme with the situation and the trend of the development of modern composite wood furniture. First of all, the composite wood furniture structure in the combination of wood-based panels and solid wood is the innovation of Yunnan Bai traditional furniture both from material and technology. Second, the elements were simplified and extracted into the innovative designing of Bai furniture from the woodcarving and the wood-based decoration of Bai furniture. And finally, living room, bedroom, study and dining room are making into the characteristic modern Bai furniture through the combination of design and workmanship. Through the innovative design of Bai furniture, the cumbersome carved decoration of traditional Bai furniture was abandoned, and being instead of the simplified engraving element. At the meantime, Bai furniture are made of focusing on practicality, connecting the traditional and complex tenon process with modern technology without any loss of artistic, and made into the modern style, with simple shapes and prominent features as well as reasonable structure and rich content in culture.
