Magnetic abrasive finishing is a new technology to finish the surface of workpiece with the grinding stress generated by magnetic abrasive particles in magnetic field. The magnetic field can be generated by permanent magnet or electromagnet. The grinding stress is generated by relative movement of magnetic abrasive particles and workpiece.But magnetic field generating device has limitations, that restrict magnetic abrasive finishing can just finish a little kinds of workpiece or perform minority of processes of the workpiece. In order to improve the design theory of magnetic field generating device, and to develop a completely different magnetic field generating device that suitable for more forms finishing process, finished some research, the main contributions are described as follows:1. Describe the status quo of magnetic abrasive finishing, summed up the theory of the magnetic field in the magnetic abrasive finishing processing, discovered the problem of existing magnetic field generating device.2. Analyzed the principle of magnetic field generating device and influencing factor of magnetic abrasive finishing. Reach a conclusion that performance requirement of magnetic field generating device includes the maximum of magnetic induction of working gap, the size of the region which reached the minimum of magnetic induction, the magnetic induction of yoke, magnetic leakage flux, reliability, cost and efficiency etc.3. Through the research on numerical analysis of electromagnetic field, Ansoft Maxwell was chosen to do3D simulation and optimization analysis on magnetic field generating device, developed a design theory of magnetic field generating device with the help of Ansoft Maxwell.4. Base on the simulation of Ansoft Maxwell, analyzed ampere turns by using the parametric analysis method, compared the influence of coil’s position on magnetic induction.5. Combined with the analysis of existing magnetic abrasive finishing equipment, the design method of electromagnets and numerical analysis of electromagnetic field, concluded that the principle of design of magnetic field generating device is:To establish the required magnetomotive by use of field current in the coils, to take advantage of high magnetic permeability of the core, to design a complete magnetic circuit, and to design a suitable working gap, to achieve the magnetic field distribution in the working gap.6. Complete a predesign of magnetic field generating device that all parts lies on the same side of workpiece. The relative position of magnetic field generating device and workpiece is more flexible, more compact, easier to adjust the working gap and the feed. The magnetic induction of working gap can reached higher than0.6T, that makes it will be made possible that magnetic field generating device can be both used for magnetic workpiece and the non-magnetic workpiece, magnetic field generating device can be both used for rotational workpiece and the flat workpiece.The magnetic field generating device designed by this paper can be used for further research and practical study of magnetic abrasive finishing processing. That will contributes to development of magnetic abrasive finishing.
