Study On Furniture Design Evaluation Systems Based On Matter-element Analysis/Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process

Along with social progresses, science and technology improve and production levels rises, the standard of people’s lives has changed dramatically. Which means, simple food and clothing has been unable to meet the demand of people’s lives. What they want is enjoying the welfare that social and technological progresses could bring us. Furniture, as one of the most important parts of people’s lives, should also adapt to these changes in demands. What we need to do is to take furniture design into higher level. That is to say, make furniture not only the daily support equipments but also works of art to make people’s lives more beautiful and comfortable, which is also the best way to comply with the aspirations of the people. How to achieve the perfect combination of technology and art? The key lies in furniture design. But, how do we judge the quality of furniture design? That is the responsibility of furniture design evaluation.The purpose of furniture design evaluation is to help people to judge the merits of a design. In a narrow sense, furniture design evaluation means the assessment of a certain furniture design. Broadly speaking, it goes throughout the entire process of design and manufacturing. From the consumer survey, to design, to manufacture, to sales, to using and to reclamation, design evaluation involves in every step in the furniture life cycle. This study focused on the establishment of evaluation system for furniture design, but due to time and other kinds of constraints, only a simple model of the evaluation system concentrating on design, production and product quality evaluation was built. As follows:(Ⅰ) From the evaluation methods, the establishment and application of evaluation system, a brief study on the development status of China’s furniture design evaluation system was conducted. The current issues existing in these two fields were pointed out, to display the trends and directions for future research.(Ⅱ) The selection of indicators and the establishment of evaluation indicator system were stated in the second part. Two indicator systems for the evaluation of design, manufacturing and products were built respectively based on Matter Element Analysis and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process.(Ⅲ) After the selection of methods, two furniture design evaluation systems based on Matter Element Analysis and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process were established.(Ⅳ) In the case study, five products of a well-known furniture company were randomly selected to be the samples. All the data were attained via collections and questionnaire surveys. Then, these data were analyzed respectively by the matter element analysis method and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to verify the established models of the evaluation systems. (V) Finally, the evaluation results were compared together to conclude this study. In conclusion, the deficiencies of this research were demonstrated.
