Small module gear has been widely used in high precision transmissionequipment and its fabrication precision directly influences the working performanceand application life. Because of its unique geometrical and mechanical features, thesmall module gear measurement technology is fall behind of medium mold gear. Ithas significant meaning for national gear manufacturing quality and marketingcompetitive to study the small mold measurement technology.For the small modulus gear whose modulus is range from0.5-1mm, its highprecision measurement is adopting contact method; for the gear whose modulus isless than0.5mm, the noncontact measurement method is used commonly. This paperconducted the study on the small modulus gear measurement by the methods ofcontact and noncontact, and made an analysis on the accuracy of detection system ofcontact measurement equipment, and established the noncontact measurementsystem based on machine vision technology and created the evaluation model of gearmeasurement based on contact measurement method as well as the measurementuncertainty analysis model based on the electronic generating method.The main research of this paper contents include:1. Make a deep research on the measurement methods of small modulus gearand corresponding research status of home and abroad based on the methods ofcontact and noncontact.2. To the contact measurement method, the detection system, which is the keyfactor influencing measurement precision, is taken as research target. Theexperimental equipment based on the PZT micro displacement platform has beenestablished and the host computer data acquisition program is made to study theperformance of3D scan probe to improve the measurement accuracy.3. For the different measurement methods of involute, the tooth profilemeasurement evaluation models were created based on the electronic generating method and rectangular coordinate and polar coordinate respectively, and theapplication scope was analyzed.4. The measurement uncertainty accuracy model was created based on theelectronic generating method, which describes the interrelationship of different errorsources with the quantizing mathematical expressions and has certain guidingsignificance for the gear helix primary standard developed.5. Aiming to the features of small modulus gear, the noncontact measurementmethod based on the machine vision technology has been presented and the keycomponents of measurement system were selected, finally the measurement systemwas set up for the gear whose modulus is less than0.5mm.
