With the development of industrial, demand for coal in China is growing, and the safety of coal production is become the focus today. Hydraulic support as the key part of mechanized mining equipment plays a role of supporting roof in the coal mining process, and also provides reasonable working space. At the same time, hydraulic support could ensure the mine safety.The technology of hydraulic support design started relatively late in China, and there is a big gap with foreign countries. From the1970s China began to develop hydraulic support, and with the development of more than50years, it has made a breakthrough progress in research methods, tools and materials selection. By means of computer-aided software C++,3D modeling software Pro/E and static analysis software ANSYS, the simulation analysis on the preliminary design of the hydraulic support is done in this paper. It could shorten the period of trial and also could cost savings.First, in the third chapter computer and related programming software have been used to calculate relevant data in which the front end of the top beam point trajectory is a straight line as the target function, first changing the nodal coordinates of the front connecting rod and the base support; second changing the four connecting rod’s and shield beam’s length value, and at last changing the angle of the shield beam and the top beam. The result is that the hydraulic suffered minimal additional force and made our roof management facility as it reduced the front-end point of the top beam.Second, three-dimensional model has been created in Pro/E, and then based on the relationship between the various components of the constraints, the interference checking and motion simulation of model have been done. The result is that interference does not exist between the various components and the end point of the top beam trajectory is good.In the last finite element analysis has been done in fifth chapter, this paper divides four cases to check the top beam strength:top beam top surface uniform load, pillar fosse concentrated load and one end of the roof beams concentrated loads and side load. The strength of the roof beams by the analysis results is checked in this paper, and then process on selecting material of the column nest place, welding process of side guard plate is also made in this paper. The appropriate basis has provided for the future design.The data in chapter three which is the best combination of legs can be used as the reference in the future. In chapter4and5virtual prototype method of hydraulic support for virtual research has been used, which saves the cost of trial, there is a practical value in the application.
