Construction Of National Ecological Barrierexperiment Zone In Gansu Countermeasures

Advice on how to further support the economic and social development of Gansu Province issued by the General Office of the State Council clearly recognizes Gansu Province as a ecological safety barrier for the Northwest area and even for the whole country. Therefore, ecological safety development strategies featured by water conservation and desert harnessing should be carried out, and ecological demonstration districts and province should be set up. In order to fulfill this requirement, to comprehensively advance the ecological development in Gansu, and to explore new development pattern of the combination of transformational development and ecological construction in under-developed areas of mainland China, the12th Party Congress of Gansu Province puts forward that ecological construction and environmental protection will be a significant strategic task, and a national ecological barrier experiment zone will be established. This paper, through the analysis of the biological condition and ecological problems existing in Gansu Province, clarifies the general thinking, aims, key points, system and mechanism of establishing "the national ecological barrier experiment zone" as well as the current work fields, work measures, etc. Meanwhile, the paper also gives advice on how the country should make supportive policies and measures with regard to Gansu Province.
