On detail investigation in characteristic of ball-end mill and its micromachining, the ball-end mill modeling and parametric design system are worked out by means of mathematical theory and application of UG/GRIP technology. Based on the geometry model of ball-end mill, a3D force model for micromilling of ball-end mill is established. By combination with the corresponding experiments, static and modal simulation is analyzed for milling force of the ball-end mill in micromilling. The main contents are as follows:1.The mathematical model of cylindrical surface of the ball-end mill,spherical helix with equal lead was built through the analysis of the ball-end mill with cutting edge of equal helix angle. According to the actual machining process, the mathematic-al model of the scanning curve of ball-end mill escrape and forming curve of the rake of ball head part.2.The finite element model of ball-end mill blade was discretized, then a three-dimensional milling force model which applies to the ball-end mill was created to analysis and determine the key parameters related with the ball-end mill function.3.The three-dimensional parametric model of the ball-end mill was established through UG, then a second development based on the UG system is done by GRIP language. The program system which could generate different ball-end mill model with different parameters was established with compilation and linking between the system menu and dialog box procedure of the ball-end mill parametric system.4.The ball-end mill finite element model was lead into the ANSYS, relevant scheme of experiment was made, and the static and dynamic analysis on the process of the ball-end mill was done combined with experimental data and the finite element calculation.
