As a kind of clean and efficient energy, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has beendeveloped rapidly in the major cities along with the adjustment of China’s energystrategy and the development of national economy. As the major part of the citygas storage station, once the LPG tank farm has an accident happens, there will be giverise to disastrous consequences. Herefore, it is necessary to carry out risk assessmentof LPG stations.1. In this thesis, the risk assessment process for LPG tank farm has been proposedbased on the research on the literatures. The extent of the harm of LPG leakage and indexof risk evaluation have been determined by hazard identification, qualitative evaluation, quantitative analysis and evaluation methods. So, the security risks of overall LPG tankfarm have been obtained.2. Selection of the risk assessment model:(1) The gas leak rate of the gas leak, liquidspills and gas-liquid two-phase spills and leaks were calculated using R. H. Perry model,Bernoulli Hydrodynamic equations and Flash model as models, respectively;(2) Thehazard concentration, distance and area of the continuous diffusion and instantaneousdiffusion were calculated using the flat model and the box model, respectively;(3) According to overpressure damage criteria, the TNO multi-energy method was used tocalculate the damage range and personnel mortality in a cloud explosion of LPG vapor.3. To learn the site layout, production facilities and equipment, management systemsand contingency plans, four typical LPG storage and distribution station have beenstudied by field research method. By using the risk assessment method, the deficienciesof the current LPG storage and distribution station were analyzed and someappropriate safety measures have been proposed:(1) Improving the security of LPGsystem;(2) Preventing the combustion of fire from tank region;(3) improving theemployees quality;(4) Working out the emergency rescue plan to improveemergency response capabilities;(5) Detecting leaks by setting the concentration detectionand alarm devices for combustible gas;(6) Proper disposal of spills and so on.Results of this thesis can be employed to prevent LPG storage tank leakage accidents furthest, to lower the casualties and the loss of property. Furthermore, these resultsprovide a scientific basis for the LPG safety management and decision-making.
