Coking fly ash is the dust producing in the process of coking and coke using, which will notonly pollute environment and be difficultly disposed after recycling, but also easily causesecondary pollution in the process of using. In this thesis, the study used coking fly ash as rawmaterial to produce activated carbon, which not only can effectively use the characteristics withsmall granularity and high carbon content of the coking fly ash to improve its economic value, also can produce purification material that is in urgent need of on the market. It not only opensup new ways to the comprehensive utilization of coking fly ash, also provides basis for theactivated carbon industry of raw material deriving from industrial waste and contributes toenvironmental causes. In the study, it has researched the feasibility of the preparation of the activated carbon usingcoking fly ash as the raw material by industrial analysis, and it has researched the effect of thematerial granularity, the ratio of KOH to carbon material (i.e. the mass ration of KOH to cokingfly ash), activation temperature, activation time to the activated carbon properties that preparedwith coking fly ash by single factor experiment, and it has ensured the appropriate processparameters of the preparation of activated carbon with coking fly ash through orthogonalexperiments. The results show that the coking fly ash is suitable for the preparation of activatedcarbon and the iodine absorption capacity of the activated carbon is663.28mg/g, the yield is68.01%.Through the test of specific surface area and pore size distribution, it can know that theactivated carbon prepared with coking fly ash is mesopore activated carbon with the specificsurface area of230.88m~2/g, the pore volume of0.11213cm~3/g and the rate of mesopore volumeas high as84.20%. The test results of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and scanning electronmicroscope(SEM) show that the amount of nitrogen functional groups and oxygen functionalgroups of the activated carbon have increased and the surface polarity has enhance in theactivated process. The activated carbon has loose structure and surface with abundanthoneycomb pore structure.Above research shows that the coking fly ash is suitable for the preparation of the activatedcarbon with high mesopore porosity that used for activated carbon adsorption in liquid phase.
