Polysulfonamide(PSA) fiber is kind of high performance fiber with high temperature resistance, flame retardancy, electric insulation and chemical stability, but the volume specific resistance and the initial modulus of which are high while the friction coefficient and the curling stability of which are low creating more static electricity and less cohesive force among fibers during spinning process. Therefore, it is difficult to manufacture from PSA fibers to yarns and the yarn quality is poor.Currently, there are three methods to improve the spinnability of the PSA fiber, i.e. plasma treatment, blended with other fibers and oil agent treatment, and the oil agent treatment is the most frequently used one on account of its innocuousness on high performances of the fiber and of its low cost. And the oil agent is a sort of additives to adjust fiber friction characteristics, to prevent or eliminate the accumulation of static electricity and to make the fiber lubricous and soft, which will do help PSA fibers go through the spinning process smoothly. While there are few researches on oil agent for PSA fibers at home and abroad presently, following studies were carried out in this paper.(1) The practical situation of friction between fibers and machines in spinning process was simulated on the Wool Fiber Length Tester. Then static electric fields generated from frictions between fibers and metal were tested, and the result revealed that negative static electricity were produced from the friction between PSA fibers and the metal, and the static voltage was larger than other kinds of fibers such as acrylic fibers and wool fibers. Furthermore, experiments were made to find out that fiber length exerted a larger influence on the static field than the card number did.(2) The components of the oil agent for PSA fibers were selected as follows aimed at improving the spinnability of the fiber. White oil No.10and No.20were selected as smoothing agent, JFC was selected as penetrating agent, MOA-3and MOA-9were selected as emulsifying agent, and one of MOA3PK, Sodium dodecyl sulfonate, TF-481, Alkyl phosphate diethanolamine salt, Stearamidopropyldimethyl-β-hydroxyethyl ammonium nitrate(SN), HDC-350was selected as antistatic agent. Then the oil agent was compounded according to the HLB theory and practical experiences, and the latex was prepared and evaluation was made on its stability. (3) Laboratory evaluations were made on the spinnability of six kinds of oil agent and two kinds of mature oil agents, i.e. No.7and No.8were taken as comparisons. The result showed that oil agent No.5in which the antistatic agent was TF-481performed best in cohesive property and oil agent No.5in which the antistatic agent was SN performed best in antistatic property.(4) Through trial spinning and formulation optimization, conclusion was made that oil agent No.3behaved well in antistatic property which was the same as oil agent No.7, and the moisture retention and cohesive property of oil agent No.3were better than both oil agent No.7and oil agent No.8.
