Performance Research And Product Development Of Cotton-Like Polyester Knitted Fabrics

Cotton-like polyester fiber is a new type of differential fiber which is modified from conventional polyester fiber, the third monomer was introduced into its macromolecule chain by polymeric modification to increase hydrophilic groups of the fiber, at the same time, cross-sectional shape of the fiber was changed from circular to trefoil to increase the specific surface area of the fiber, so that hygroscopicity and mechanical properties of the fiber are improved, and has soft and flexible feel. The cotton-like polyester fiber in this paper can be dyed with cationic dye under atmospheric pressure and dyeing temperature usually is98℃, the coloring rate is high. Because of the absorption coefficient of cationic dye molecular is higher than that of disperse dye molecular, cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics have bright colors and gentle and natural gloss.Currently, researches on performances of the cotton-like polyester fiber and its products are still in the early stages, this paper is devoted to study the performances of this cotton-like polyester fiber and its yarns as well as knitted fabrics, explored the unique properties of cotton-like polyester fiber, in order to develop a series of cotton-like polyester knitted products with outstanding performances and high cost-effective. It is hoped that this paper can provide some references for related researchers.Firstly, this paper tested and analyzed properties of the three fibers which are cotton-like polyester fiber, cotton fiber and conventional polyester fiber and nine Siro yarns spinning by the three fibers, the properties mainly includes the physical parameters and mechanical properties of the fibers, cross section, moisture regain, twist, mechanical properties, hairiness and evenness of the yarns, and also analyzed the influence between the properties of the fibers, the blending ratio of the yarns and the performances of the yarns. The results show that the breaking strength and elongation of the cotton-like polyester fibers decrease, and linear density increase after modification. Cotton-like polyester yarns have high moisture regain, but low breaking strength, the yarns’friction coefficient are large, and have a lot of fine ends and short hairiness, the number of long hairiness is little. The hygroscopicity of yarns blended by cotton-like polyester fiber and cotton fiber are obviously improved than that of the yarns blended by conventional polyester fiber and cotton fiber.Secondly, this paper studied weaving performances of the cotton-like polyester yarn. The results show that the yarns with high proportion of cotton-like polyester are easy to break and cause many holes on their cloths during the weaving process,that is mainly because the yarns have too much fine ends and the strength irregularity of the yarns are high, therefore, the spinning process need to be adjusted to improve the quality of the yams, besides, knitting process need to be adjusted.Thirdly, dyeing process of the cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics were given in this paper. l’ure cotton-like polyester knitted fabric dyes with cationic red X-GRL, yarns blended by cotton-like polyester fiber and cotton fiber dye in two bath, dyeing temperature are all98℃. After dyed with cationic dye, the cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics have bright colors and soft feel.Fourthly, performances of the cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics were tested and analyzed, the performances mainly include appearance, mechanical properties, comfort and style of the fabrics. The results show that the anti-fuzzing and pilling performance, moisture absorption of the cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics are obviously improved than that of conventional polyester knitted fabrics; The wrinkle resistance, tensile resilience, air permeability, warmth retention, transient warm feeling, drape, softness, elasticity, anti-static performance of the cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics are better than pure cotton knitted fabrics; But the washing spirality, dimensional stability, bursting strength and some other performances haven’t improved, therefore fiber processing, spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing process need to be improved to make the cotton-like polyester fiber and its products have more excellent performances.Finally, according to the conclusions above and the requirements of knitted apparel market, this paper developed some cotton-like polyester knitted fabrics, which mainly include spring and summer fabrics with hydroscopic and sweat-discharge performances, thermal underwear fabrics of autumn and winter, sports and recreation fabrics and so on. All of these meet the consumers’ demands for knitted apparel products which healthy, comfortable and high cost-effective.
