In this paper,Ho,Tm:YbAG and Er,Tm:YbAG laser ceramics powders were prepared by low-temperature combustion method and co-precipitation method. Both of the two methods used PEG10000as dispersing agent, and the quantity was equal to one-nineth of the metal nitrates mixture. The optimum preparation conditions for low temperature combustion method were:citric acid acted as combustion agent;the ratio of combustion agent to metal nitrate mixture was1.5:1;the calcine temperature was950℃,the acting time was2h,pH=2.5.The optimum conditions for co-precipitation method were:ammonia acted as precipitating agent;calcined2h at1000℃and pH=7. The dopant concentration of Ho3+,Tm3+was1%and2%,respectively;when it came to Er3+and Tm3+,the value was2%and1%,respectively.The properties of the powders have been characterized. The results indicated that the strongest fluorescent emission peaks of Tm,Ho:YbAG and Er,Tm:YbAG were at1958nm and1709nm,which can be attributed to the5I7â†'5I8transitions of Ho3+and the3F4â†'3H6transitions of Tm3+,respectively.Upconversion emission spectrums of Tm,Ho:YbAG and Er,Tm:YbAG ceramics powders were measured, and the corresponding upconversion mechanism were discussed in this paper.
