The halide and halogen phosphate compounds are mostly used as flame retardants intraditional textile field. The halogenated flame retardants will threaten people’s safety becausethey release stimulating and corrosive hydrogen halide gases or smoke, and causeenvironmental problems when burning. Therefore, it is necessary to develop environmentalfriendly flame retardant coating agents with excellent flame retardancy. Hydrotalcite is a kindof eco-friendly inorganic flame retardant free of halogen. In this paper, the hydrotalcite wasused to compound with the water-based adhesives to prepare a series of hydrotalciteflamecoating retardants applied to polyester fabric, then the flame retardants coating processeswere optimized and the mechanisms of flame retardant and moisture permeability werestudied finally.Firstly, hydrotalcite flame retardant agent was prepared. Through the study ofcompatibility between hydrotalcite and water-based PU, PUA, PA, it was found that thehydrotalcite can be well dispersed in the water-based PU, PUA, PA and the compoundsperformed outstanding stability. When the quality ration of hydrotalcite and water-based PU,PUA, PA was under15:100, the coating adhesive performed well stability, the viscosity andsolid content were moderate. The hydrotalcite increases the stress of each coating adhesivefilm, but decreases its breaking elongation. It was found that the decomposition temperature ofhydrotalcite is relative lower than water-based coating adhesive and the thermal stability ofdecomposition product is good when comparing the film of the hydrotalcite and thewater-based PU, PUA, PA compounds.Then, the application of the hydrotalcite flame retardant on polyester fabric wasresearched. The hydrotalcite-PU adhesive, hydrotalcite-PUA adhesive and hydrotalcite-PAadhesive were applied to polyester fabric and each coating process was optimized further. Theresults showed that hydrotalcite-PU’s finishing process was the quality ration of hydrotalcite,water-based PU and cross lingking agent11:100:2, the quality of coating agent stood8g/m2atthe curing temperature165℃for60s. The hydrotalcite-PUA’s finishing process was the quality ration of hydrotalcite, water-based PUA and cross lingking agent11:100:2, the qualityof coating agent stood9g/m2at the curing temperature170℃for60s. The hydrotalcite-PA’sfinishing process was the quality ration of hydrotalcite, water-based PA and cross lingkingagent9:100:2, the quality of coating agent stood9g/m2at the curing temperature165℃for80s. The coated fabrics with three kinds of coating agents performed good flame resistanceand had certain waterproof and moisture permeability under each other’s optimal process.Finally, the retardant and moisture permeable mechanisms of hydrotalcite flame retardantagent were investigated. The flame retardancy and moisture permeability of coating fabricprepared by hydrotalcite-PU flame retardant agents were studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD)and infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)of the hydrotalcite and the TG, SEM of the coated fabricwere characterized. It is found that the combustion of coated fabric is retarded because thehydrotalcite plays a multi-role in both the endothermic process and cooling process, then gasphase diluted, heat insulation layer on the fabric surface was formed finally during theburning process. The moisture permeability was improved because of the hydrophilic group inhydrotalcite and "diffusion-adsorption-desorption " was showed in water transfer moistureprocess.Theoretical basis and specific process guidance are provided for the production throughthe development of water-based flame retardant coating agents, its application on polyesterfabric and the analysis of flame retardancy and moisture permeability mechanism.
