Ultrathin asphalt friction course is an effectively maintenance measures whichcan extend the pavement life, improve ride quality, correct surface defects andincrease the security (including skid and drainage improving), reduce noise,strengthen surface function of road. However, the current domestic research on thetechnology of ultrathin asphalt friction course is still less, so this article will study onthe gradation, pavement performance, shear property, and construction quality ofultrathin asphalt friction course.Through the Marshall test studying on the completely broken-grade andinterrupt-grade with a total of five grade levels, it is found that asphalt concrete usinginterrupt-grade could gain larger mix void. It’s more suitable for heavy traffic roadsurface. Therefore, it is reasonable to recommend interrupt-grade as the grade ofultrathin asphalt friction course.Through the analysis of rutting, uniaxial static creep, the Marshall immersion,freeze-thaw fracturing, frost resistance test and other mixture performance tests, it isindicated that ultrathin asphalt friction course with interrupt-grade can meet thetechnology need of road in cold regions, it could be used as the surface layer ofhighway in cold regions for maintenance and repair, and also could be used for newhighway pavement engineering.The paper also studyed on the shearing property of the bonding layer of ultrathinasphalt friction course through the simulation of pavement structure and got someimportant parameters of the bonding layer.In conclusion, the paper respectively summarized the construction process andquality control points of ultrathin asphalt friction course constructed simultaneouslyand step by step, and also summed up the technical problems which are suitable forultrathin asphalt friction course to solve. At last, the equivalent annual cost methodwas used for the cost-effectiveness analysis of ultrathin asphalt friction course.
