High-speed camera has a wide range of applications in the field of scientificresearch, the military field, athletic and artistic photography. The ultra-high-speeddigital gated camera has become an integral part of the research tools for the laserphysics, ballistics and a range of research, fluid dynamics, nonlinear optics,spectroscopy, materials science, explosion research. In view of its significant practicalsignificance, the ultra-high-speed digital gated camera has important research value.This paper summarizes the course of development of the high-speed camera, andintroduces ultra-high-speed digital gated camera`s composition and each part of theworks. Based on this, ultra-high-speed digital gated camera optical system andmachinery and system are designed. The completion of the main research work andthe innovations are as follows:1、According to the analysis results of the system design requirements, the spatiallayout of the optical system, the reduction ratio, the entrance pupil position, imagedistance, image side numerical aperture, the supporting objective lens`s focal length,and other parameters are determined.2、According to the spatial layout of the system and its optical parameters, ainitial system structure is selected. With the use of CODE V, a nonsymmetricaloptical system is designed. For which the spectral range is350nm~800nm, the overalllength is360mm, image diatance is155mm, reduction ration is1.28, the objectnumerical aperture is0.125, the system resolution is50mm lp/mm, the distortion isunder1%. When connected to different objecive lens, Ф100mm and Ф200mm areacan be observed at500mm from the object.3、Image quality evaluation and tolerance analysis was done when completingthe optical system design. With the use of LightTools software, the images surfacebrightness differences was got. After analysis, the results show that the results meetthe design requirements of the system design and the the brightness difference of theimages is under±4%.4、According to the spatial layout of the design results and the result of theoptical system design, the package for the optical system and the mechanical parts are carefully designed. The system subdivision imaging of fixed manner is alsodetermined. With the use of three-dimensional graphics software, the assemblyprocess is simulated.5、According to the software simulation, the optical components and mechanicalparts are assembled. Good image quality is obtained though debugging. And the fourimages are symmetrical about center.6、A series of experiments are done to verify system performance, and the resultsshow that the actual assembled system meet the design requirements: The distortionof image is less than1%, four images surface brightness differences are within±4.2%,the resolution of the system is more than50lp/mm.
