Running red lights and other vehicle violations are major reasons lead to trafficaccidents. This paper presents an embedded snapshot system. The system effectivelysnaps the vehicles which run a red light, collecting the evidence successfully at the sametime. And the system is compact and low power consumption, satisfying the actualrequirements of road management.The main contents are as follows:1. Analyzing the structure and working principle of the snapshot system. Thesnapshot system consists of the vehicle detection module, the red lightdetection module and snapshot camera.2. Because the camera’s video and image acquisition system need to collect andprocess large amounts of video and image data, demanding high imageacquisition and processing speed. Therefore, selecting the DaVinci platformTMS320DM355as the control and video image processing chip of thesnapshot system in the design of video and image acquisition system.3. Designing the hardware circuit of the snapshot camera. The entire hardwarecircuit consists of four modules as power and reset circuit, the DM355mastercircuit, video and image acquisition circuit, the STM32communication circuit.Describing the design of every circuit.4. Designing the software of the snapshot camera. As the master chip DM355needs to handle several tasks, multithreaded programs which obey POSIXstandard and support the Linux OS is designed to realize it. Snapshot cameraimage enhancement algorithm and vehicle violation judgment algorithm isdesigned.5. Testing the functions of the snapshot system. The results show that thesnapshot system has a fairly high snap success ratio and get rather clearimages.Finally, the work of this article is summarized, listing the points which should to beimproved in the future.
