Automated Mechanical Transmission(AMT)is refitted from the traditionalmechanical type manual transmission, adding the microcomputer control principle,shift and clutch actuator. Compared with other automatic transmission, AMT has theadvantages of high transmission efficiency, low production and R&D cost and greatmarket potential. The research on clutch control system is extraordinary significant, asthe initial stage of clutch engagement which serious affects working performance ofAMT is very complex.In this paper, dynamic model of the vehicle driving system is established basedon the analysis of the clutch engagement process on the initial stage. Mathematicalmodel of clutch impact and sliding friction and clutch engagement speed was deducedon the base of the relationship between the clutch friction torque transmitted in theengaging process and clutch release, which laid the theoretical foundation for thevehicle with good performance on the initial stage of starting.It is very difficult to establish an accurate model to control the clutch engagementbecause of the nonlinear and time varying and uncertainty of its external workenvironment and the subjective intention. After detailed analysis and research of theclutch engaging process, this paper first introduced the throttle opening and its rate ofchange with the fuzzy control strategy to deduce the driver’s intention; Secondly,deduced clutch engagement position according to the change of every variable in theclutch engaging process;Finally, establish fuzzy controller with the input of the driverintention and clutch engagement position as well as the rotational speed ratio of masterand slave discs to control clutch engagement according to the proper engagementspeed obtained by the expert experience.The simulation show that, based on reflect driver’s intention and the externalenvironment, the vehicle can start smoothly through the control strategy proposed inthis paper, which reduced the friction work under the consider of riding comfort, andprolonged the clutch service life, and made the clutch achieve better control performance in starting process.
