With the constant expansion of the urban transport system, the number of cars increased rapidly. The urban road congestion and vehicle thefts also increased. In this case, the real-time monitoring of the operation of vehicle and the reasonable dispatching and managing of the vehicle is not only a real problem that to improve transport efficiency and preventtheft incident but also a real problem that to promote social development, protect of the natural environment and save energy.This paper designed a vehicle monitoring and managing system based on GPS/GPRS.It combines the high accuracy and good real-time features of the GPS and packing andswitching technology with real-time, efficient and covering a wide range features of theGPRS. The system achieves that the monitoring center monitored and managed thevehicles on real-time.First, by analyzing the needs of the entire system, the system is divided into differentfunctional modules. And we can know the hardware which support system realizing thefunctions.Second, through the analysis of the data format of the GPS positioning and theprotocols, methods of the GPRS, and combining with the control of the microcontroller toGPS and GPRS, we make out the design which the vehicle terminal collects the locationinformation and transport the information to the monitoring center.Third, we make out the design which implements the functions of the monitoringcenter. Based on the determination of the protocols and format of the vehicle terminal andmonitoring center, we make out the design which realize the monitoring center managingthe information of the different vehicles. Based on the research of the method whichextracts the real-time location data and historical positioning data and the method whichshows the trajectory of the vehicle on the map, we make out the design which combinesreal-time trajectory tracking and historical track playing back. Based on the analysis of themethod which draws the rectangular area and the method which screens of the vehiclesthat meet specific criteria, we make out the design that inquires the number of vehicles inthe rectangular area.At last, we make the debug and test of the whole system.
