With the rapid development of building materials, the flat face sandwich panelshave developed quickly and used broad range. It is mainly used in wall panels. But theopening in sandwich panels is inevitable to meet the architectural features require whenit use in the project. The papers will study on sandwich panel with openings by theory,experiment and finite element methods. It includes deflection and bearing capacityanalysis of the sandwich panel with opening, load distribution calculation of the wallpanels and node connection strength checking.The sandwich panels are able to bear itself with small opening. The deflection andcarrying capacity of sandwich panels with opening should be calculated when design.First, it should determine the form and position of the opening. The hole is rectangleand opens in the mid-span. And then establishing the differential equations andpiecewise integral of sandwich panels with opening refer to the theoretical derivationprocess without opening. The deflection formulas of sandwich panels with opening havebeen obtained. According to the sandwich panel deflection standards it has beenobtained the bearing capacity formula. Finally, using the experiment and finite elementmethods to validate the theoretical formula, and correct theoretical formula so that getmore accurate theoretical calculation formula.There will give several experiments of different opening sizes with sandwich panelwhich to verify the correctness of the theoretical formula. At the same time the failuremode of the sandwich panel with opening and the different opening sizes impact on thecarrying capacity will be observed in the process of experiment.The sandwich panels cannot carry alone when large openings. So it needs theadjacent sandwich panels to bear part of the load that in the sandwich panels withopening. Based on the compatibility of deflections at the mid-span it calculates the loadborne by each sandwich panel in the wall panels. This part of the load is passed throughby the nodes. Combined with steel structure node connection the formula and sandwichpanels’norms, the strength of the sandwich panel node formula will be given.Finally, additional frames have to be constructed, if the load carrying resistance ofthe longitudinal joints is not liked to be used, if the load carrying resistance of thelongitudinal joints is not high enough or if resistance of the neighboring panel is nothigh enough to the additional loads. The sandwich panels with opening can bereinforced in the hole around, or may be the reinforcement of the entire sandwich panel.The sandwich panel will not be weakening after reinforced and the framework can carrythe all load. The sandwich panels with opening study complete the theoretical research ofsandwich panel which it provides a basis for the design and make a better developmentof the sandwich panel.
