Research On Planning Strategies Of Non-motorized System In CBD Area

Generally，the CBD (Central Business District) is a core area whereNon-motorized traffic demand is most concentrated across the city. The high densityof population concentration and building construction in the CBD area put forwardhigher requirements in both size and quality of its Non-motorized System. In order toease the traffic congestion and reduce the carbon emission, many countries in theworld have taken developing non-motorized system as a main strategy of the cities’development in the future, especially in CBD area where non-motorized traffic andmotorized traffic are highly concentrated. Constructing a more comprehensivenon-motorized system so as to encourage more non-motorized activities has becomethe consensus of many famous CBDs in the world. Under such circumstances,through analyzing the related theories and practical experience both domestic andabroad, and the constituent elements and characteristics of the Non-motorized System,studying and proposing planning and design strategies non-motorized traffic system inCBD region, will be a very important and necessary research topic, which can providesome theoretical foundation for the planning and construction of the transportationsystem in CBD area of our country.The main ideas of this article can be summarized as follows:Firstly，by describing and analyzing the concepts, features and core elements ofthe related them, this paper delivers some basic research about the two researchsubject-"CBD" and "Non-motorized System". Then the related theories onNon-motorized System in domestic and foreign cities are expounded and analyzed.All of the work done above provides a theoretical basis for this paper.Secondly,7famous CBD planning cases are gathered and concluded, the specificcharacteristics of the non-motorized system and overall traffic profiles of each CBDcase are analyzed. Meanwhile, the experience and strategies are also given, which ismainly about the pedestrian&bicycle system and the connections betweennon-motorized system and other transportation systems. All of them provide aneffectively basis of practices.Thirdly, based on the study and summarization of the general trafficcharacteristics in the CBD area, this paper then presents the traffic characteristics of the intensity and demand characteristics of the non-motorized system in the CBD area,along with discussing the problems of Non-motorized System in current CBD areaacross China.Finally, on the basis of the research above, this paper proposes the planning goaland principle of the CBD area, and provides the planning strategies of thenon-motorized system in CBD area in all aspects which cover from non-motorizedspace, road grid system, to the non-motorized nodes and traffic system managementpolicy. And ultimately it comes to the core research conclusion of this dissertation.
