Diesel engine speed control system is not only the core content of diesel engine control system, but also the most important of achieving intelligent control. Applying ARM Embedded technology into the diesel engine speed control system can not only improve the performance of diesel engines, but also change the situation, that the governor of China’s most current used diesel powered equipment can not meet the increasing demands of the status quo. Diesel engine speed governor is an important section of the whole diesel control system, according to engine load changes, it can automatically adjust the engine’s fuel supply, in order to maintain stability of the engine speed and then ensure good engine performance.Based on the analysis of domestic and international diesel engine speed control system development status, the advanced embedded system has been applied into diesel engine speed control system. The design of ARM-based diesel engine speed control system includes three parts:hardware selection, software design and system functional testing. According to design requirements, appropriate hardware and software is choosed, like the ARM chip and Linux systems as the development platform. First, the design of the actuator-ARM-based DC motor speed control system is designed, and on this basis, sensors will be added, the software process will be modified, then the overall design of the diesel engine speed control system will be completed.Firstly, the hardware of diesel engine speed control system has been designed. The microprocessor types and the ARM processor features are described. Mini2440based on S3C2440chip is selected as the center processor.57series and M542two-phase stepper motor drive is selected as stepper motor and drive, the M542drive uses the most advanced sub-control methods. JAC power JD2102, the existing laboratory-type diesel engine is used as the control object. During the connection process, it is found that some devices can not be directly connected for their voltage difference, so a voltage amplification board is welded.Secondly, a software platform includes embedded Linux operating system platform and software development. When constructing embedded Linux operating system platform, the crossover development environment should be established firstly; the BootLoader program has been transplanted based on hardware platform; the Linux kernel has also been developed, compiled and transplanted; the Cramfs file system has been developed. Software is written in C language, including two parts, the first part is the the motor control software program written during designing the actuator, the second part is the overall engine speed control programming.Finally, the overall system test is carried on, and a follow-up vision is made, too. Final experimental verification shows that, the embedded control electrical equipment can effectively implement the start, stop, reverse and variable speed control of DC motor. Simulation results show that the system speed range is wide, response is fast, performance is excellent, precision is high, fully meeting the requirements of the stepper motor control. Due to time constraints, diesel engine speed control system failed to complete, but the overall design still has some innovation advantage, and also lays a basis for follow-up research, development and functional improvement.
