In order to shorten the design cycle of excavator’s crawler travel mechanism andimprove the quick reaction capability to the market, a rapid design system of excavator’scrawler travel mechanism based on modularization was developed in this dissertation.For this purpose, I have done a detailed research on the aspects of determining the keydesign parameters of crawler travel mechanism, dividing modules, developing rapiddesign system and verifing the rationality of the rapid design system.(1). According to the design requirements of customers, the key design parametersof crawler travel mechanism was determined. Then the three-dimensional model basedon Pro/E was builded. All these provide the design rules and basic model for rapiddesign system.(2).Fuzzy clustering algorithm was used for crawler travel mechanism’s moduledivision. Various related factors needed to consider when dividing modules,AHPwasused as the tool to determine the weight assignment of these factors. Because of theuncertain of scheme when using fuzzy clustering algorithm to divide modules, inconsideration of the perspective of module properties, three evaluation indexs was usedto establish the mathematical evaluation model to determine the scheme. Finally thecrawler travel mechanism was divided into six modules.(3). Using the secondary development of Pro/E, regarding modular design as thetheoretical basis, adopting parametric design technology, database technology andreasoning technology, I have developed a rapid design system of excavator’s crawlertravel mechanism based on modularization. According to the requirements of customersand modules configuration, the rapid design system can automatically generate aexcavator’s crawler travel mechanism model.(4).The crawler travel mechanism model generated through the rapid design systemcan satisfy the design requirements of customers,which was verified by dynamicssimulation. So the rapid design system is correct and feasible.On this basis, the rapid design system can automatically generate a excavator’scrawler travel mechanism model which can satisfy the customers’ requirements. So theworkload of the designer is reduced and the design cycle of excavator’s crawler travelmechanism is shortened.
