In China, after more than half century of large-scale construction, city preservation of cultural diversity receives increasing attention. At the same time, the protection and utilization of traditional courtyard of the historic district is put into action. Especially in the "World Heritage boom" driven, we return to re-focus the area of residential buildings.Traditional courtyard space bears with the memory of the nation, the wisdom of the people, and includes a large number of cultural decoding.It’s also comes from China building community evolution in the history of precipitation and correction. It is a warm, cohesive building mode, and spiritual home we yearn for, as well as the historical and cultural heritage which we follow. The courtyard space in Harbin Daowai District is the unique houses formed as special Northern residential in cold environment, with the special historical period background. In the context of economic restructuring, after the effective protection and renovation, Finding out architectural culture, interpretation of the geographical characteristics of the courtyard space, become the focus of this study.In this paper, I gradually explore according to the research line---preliminary investigation-rise up problems-analysis of problems-solving problems.Through literature review, field observation, interviews, comparation and other research methods, I combined with advanced theoretical research and practical experience at home and abroad, analyzed factors that affect the Daowai District historic courtyard space formation and development,I studied Daowai South2-South3blocks courtyard space for the organic renewal theory courtyard space figure-ground relationship, South Second Street, South Third Street space characteristics of the structure of the compound streamline the relationship between the layman’s description. Finally, after confirm the objectives and principles of the courtyard space updates and utilizing, through several field research of the courtyard space in south two-South three blocks, I make evaluation for the building itself, as well as social, environmental and economic aspects.By way of example, this paper aims to analyze evaluation of the texture of organization and its protection and utilization of the Daowai historic district traditional courtyard space. The study paper has a certain reference value, and I hope to provide a reference for related research.
