Because the asphalt is a kind of viscoelastic material, various of parameters and the performance of asphalt mixture are greatly affected by temperature. According to Technical Specification for Construction of Highway Asphalt Pavements JTG F40—2004, the asphalt pavement of Expressway and the highway mustn’t be constructed under the temperature of10℃, asphalt pavement of two level and below mustn’t be constructed under the temperature of5℃. The annual average temperature is low in some district of our country, and there is only little time can construct road in a year, mainly in May-October. In these areas, the condition schedule is very nervous, which is not conducive to the construction of high quality engineering.The asphalt pavement is not built in low temperature, mainly due to it is cooling fast in low temperature, without enough time to compact the asphalt mixture, easily lead to the early damage of asphalt pavement. Therefore, this article research the effective compaction time of asphalt pavement construction, using PAVECOOL software to set the parameters, and then through changing the value of single factor to get the relation curve of single factors and effective compaction time. Also study the relationship of temperature and initial pressure and the relationship of temperature and layer thickness. Find a way to realize the construction of asphalt pavement at low temperature. Based on analysis of influencing factors of the effective compaction time, improve the temperature of warm mix asphalt mixture, using the variable temperature compaction method, to determine the compaction temperature of asphalt mixture, then to compare the road performance, and then analyse the practical feasibility of prolong the effective compaction time. At last study the combinations of mechanical construction of asphalt pavement. through the reasonable number of roller, to complete the construction of asphalt pavement in the compaction time, presents a method suitable for construction of asphalt pavement under low temperature environment.
